1988 Toyota 4Runner

Hi, I am new to this site but would like to ask a few questions. I have a 1988 Toyota 4Runner with a fuel injection 4cyl. engine. The engine has just been rebuilt and i'm attempting to install it. The job is almost complete however there are a few lines I am uncertain where they connect. The first is the line that goes to the egr valve. I'm fairly certain this is a vacuum line but where does the other end connect? Also, there's a component near the egr valve, I think it's a fuel pressure regulator. When the engine tries to crank, fuel comes out the bottom port. It also has a port on top. Where would these two line attach? I have searched for diagrams online and have a repair manuel but still can't determine just where these lines connect. I also have a few more lines but will only list a few at a time to help eliminate confusion. Any advice or photos would be greatly appreciated.

I will try to get some pics of my Dad's 22re tonight. If you can post some pics of the components, it will be easier to help.

This is one of the parts which has a hose attaching to the top and one also attaching to the bottom. I was told this is a fuel pressure regulator but not sure if this is correct. The line coming out of the bottom is a fuel line. When the engine is being cranked fuel flows out the bottom port. Does anyone have any idea where these two hoses attach? Thanks

that is the regulator at the rear of the fuel rail, the larger tube needs a hose to go back to the gas tank - I think there is a hard line on the firewall that the hose will hook up to. The smaller port is a vacuum hose that goes to the VSV that has a blue electrical connector ..I think it is located on top of the valve cover.. I'll try to get a pic later

After reading your post I connected the fuel line and was going to connect the vacuum line but there are two connectors that are similar and I wasn't sure which one was correct. I will post pictures of both places where it looks like vacuum lines would attach. I know you said one of them goes to the regulator but I wasn't sure which one and I have no idea where the other one goes. Any advice? Thanks again for your help.

Looks like the vacuum hose goes from the regulator to the top/rearmost hard-line of the group running along between the intake and valve cover...sorry, don't have the truck here

Thanks, i'll check into that. After connecting the regulator to the fuel tank return line, like you said, the motor will now run. It doesn't sound bad considering there are still a few vacuum lines disconnected. Thanks for all the help.
