1988 4Runner V6 - Starter replaced, clutch pedal acted up

Hi all. 1988 4Runner (manual V6).

I was having intermittent starter problems so I replaced the contacts in the solenoid (one of them was in fact pretty grimy). I put the starter back in and went to start it up. It gave a little bit of a lurch which I'm assuming is just the gears getting back together. I had the car in gear when I started it but had the clutch pedal fully depressed.

What was funny was that in neutral, the car idled normally but the clutch pedal was stuck to the floor. I finally just pulled it back by hand. After which it went back to acting completely normally. I drove it around, stopped, started, went into reverse, nothing out of the ordinary.

So the car is fine, I'm just wondering why the clutch pedal stuck?

Well the slave cylinder is right behind the starter and you may have bumped the piston out of the fork. Check to make sure it's in the little dimple and your clutch hydraulics (clutch master cylinder is working. There is also a little spring that goes from a the end of the pedal to a little hole under the dash. Make sure that is connected as that is what actual brings back the pedal after it is pushed down.

I checked the cylinders and everything looks good, still plenty of fluid and no apparent leaks. Maybe I bumped the slave cylinder a little bit and then it reseated on it's own.

Anyhow, thanks for the response.
