1988 22re won't go over 20 mph!
It has been running good since a rebuild about 3000 miles ago. I first noticed something wrong when I started it a few mornings ago. The exhaust souned really airy and quiet. I dont have a muffler right now so its usually pretty loud. When i started driving it would get to a certain rpm and then start shaking pretty bad. It basically had no power and I could barely make it over hills in 1st. When i stopped to check it out I noticed the engine sounded really quiet too. It wasn't missing, just really quiet. The gas tank was filled the day before so i was thinking maybe it was bad fuel or some other problem in the fuel system? or maybe injectors?
new plugs, wires, rotor, and fuel filter a few months ago.
i cleaned the throttle body and checked the spark plugs
Do these symptoms sound familiar?
Im pretty new to working on cars so any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

There's just not enough information here to even give you a direction to go. It's not bad gas.. it never is. Does it run good and have power to a certain point and then power output drops off a cliff? Have you run a compression test?

I actually had an old Dodge truck do this exact thing. I was driving and all of a sudden the truck sounded exactly like you are describing, with all those same or similar symptoms.
Turns out it was the catalytic converter had completely clogged! Coincidentally, the EGR valve literally exploded at the same time that the truck started acting this way. I replaced the EGR, nothing. Replaced and/or check all the vaccum lines. Nothing.
Cut the cat off and holy smokes it was bad! Replaced it and the truck was good as new!
