1987 4runner, cant find right heater core

I am replacing the heater core in my 87 4runner without rear heat. My heater core measures 6x9x1.5 roughly and the pipes are not attached to the core. I ordered the one that said without rear heat and it was too big in every dimention and the pipes were attached. So I found on that said it measured 6x9 and even though it said it for one without rear heat, it must be it since I thought there was only 2 different ones. Well just got it in the mail and it was too thick. It was 1 and 3/4 inches and the old one was about 1.5 inches. So I really don't know, I cant really even find any other variations of heater cores that are even close. If anyone has any info on this I would really appreciate it because I'm completely lost.

Red face

unless you owned this from new you have no idea what might be in there.

it could be that at sometime the whole heater box was changed.

Is it possible to have your core repaired??

Take to local autoparts and tell them what you have and show them what you have.

I know I have a new one here some place

Take it to a radiator shop and have them re-core it. If they know what they're doing, you will have a better heater core in the end having them re-core it rather than getting a new aftermarket one. Plus they will order the core to the exact size and will be re-using your tanks/hose connections. And if I remember right, those are pretty spendy heater cores,so re-coring one shouldn't cost much more.
