02 sensor bad? Help!!
Hi guys,
Ive done quite a bit of work on my 86 22re 4runner in the past couple of months trying to get it to pass smog. Now the thing wont even idle and I am thinking it is the 02 sensor. I have:
Timing
Adjusted valves
New plugs and wires
Fixed a cracked exhaust manifold and shot gaskets
After adjusting the valves, the car ran much better.
After changing the plugs and wires, and all the exhaust leaks the car wont even idle and runs with no power, and almost like its on 3 cylinders.
Could a bad 02 sensor do this? I am thinking that before I fixed all the exhaust leaks, there was so much atmospheric air getting into the exhaust that the barely functioning 02 sensor was working. Now that there is no more atmospheric air getting into the exhaust, the car is running like sh**
Help!? is there anything else it could be? 02 sensors are kind of expensive and would like to know that it IS the problem before I go out and buy one...
Thanks!

I figured it out... the IAC was stuck. Opened it up, drove around the block, became un-stuck, readjusted the idle, runs like a champ now!
How/what do you adjust the idle to w/o a tach?
Thanks,
E

You could just make a wild guess.
Or, given that you've already invested a "couple months" of work, you could spring for $40 and get the right tool http://www.harborfreight.com/lcd-aut...kit-95670.html
[Since this is also a multimeter, if you get an electrical problem you won't be asking "how can I fix this if I don't have a multimeter."]
