I've got my tranny pulled for a dual setup. I replaced the rear seal on the tranny (w56) and figured I would replace the front seal as a safe measure. A couple quick questions though. More out of curiosity on this first one before I take it apart (a couple days fro now), is the front seal the same size as the rear seal? I only ask because I have an extra rear seal and that would be nice, but I doubt they'd be the same. ha ha.... Secondly when placing the gasket parts back on that were removed to get to the seal, do you guys recommend gaskets, fpig (which kind/brand), or both? I did my transfers with just gaskets as the TG guide didn't say anything about fpig, wish they would have. I was sure to make sure all surfaces were extremely clean and free raised spots on the surface/edges to make the best seal. I'm holding my breath that those gaskets do the trick.

Kind of an oddball question to throw in the same thread, but same gasket question for the oil pan. I swear mine is leaking at the rear and it doesn't appear to be from the rear main seal and dripping down (replaced rear main as well).

If gaskets are available, I used them. With a slight coating of Ultra Black or Ultra Grey. The Ultra Copper is high temp. But all of the Ultras are oil resistant. And they wont burn your nose hairs out when you get a good whiff, like RTV does...

If no gasket available, then the Ultras work great also.

I use Toyota RED FIPG on tcases and trannies. BLACK on oil pans and motor. Never used the gaskets on the tcases. Never had a leak.

I don't recall on the seals. I'd have to check the part numbers on the boxes.

Where's the best place to get the toyota fipg? I know you can most likely get it from the dealer, but I'm sure it is 3x as much there.

Good idea, not sure why I didn't think of that. I searched "toyota fipg", but it didn't yield very good results.

If you're talking about the input shaft and output shaft seal, no, they're not the same. And they're an actual seal. FIPG is not used in these applications.

Now if you're just talking about the transmissions extension housing bolting to the transfer case, you can use FIPG as others suggesed in that application.

I know there is an oil seal, so you just answered the sizing question for me then. Thanks. I was also talking about the gaskets as well (whether to use paper, fipg, or both). Thanks for the info.
