Fuel Line Problems

Hi, this is my first thread/post. I bought a 1985 4runner a couple months ago. I was told the only thing it needed was a new gas tank. (More of a want than a need truck). The 4runner sat for about 7 years with a full tank. So everything became very rusted. I got a new tank and have run into a problem. I pulled the fuel pump hangar and fuel line as a whole. I can NOT separate the two. I even bought an anti freeze/lock spray. But it won't break the two. [I am wondering if someone knows away to separate the two or if it is better to cut the fuel line or the rubber hose between the fuel pump hangar and fuel line and then how to reconnect either one.] Any help is greatly appreciated. (Fuel line is wrapped in grocery bags so it didn't get my car all dirty) ...Sorry if I did something wrong with this thread/post. I did try to search for this.

I have had the two frozen together and could not separate them. When that happens, I leave the Fuel Pump Bracket attached to the hose and just drop the tank. The Fuel Pump Bracket is a hard and expensive part to find and buy. I have a frame in the back yard with the bracket still attached just because I cant get them to separate and in my 85 build you will see I left it attached to the truck even when I did the frame off restore on it. If it wont separate, I suggest just leave it alone.

Thanks for replying Terry. I did drop the tank and got a brand new one. Only reason I want to separate the two is so I can properly clean the fuel pump bracket/hangar. The other unit that was in the tank (full gauge sending unit) was equally rusted. I used apple cider vinegar on that, looks and feels almost new. If you can zoom in, I actually slowly unscrewed the fuel pump hangar a few turns away from the fuel line. So should I just attempt to screw it back and dip the fuel pump hangar with line attached? I also wanted to clean fuel line with it detached (air hose it).

I replaced my bracket after bending up the hard line from bracket to soft line. Got it from toyota for $200. My soft lines are looking rough so will replace them next after current project. Soft lines are really spendy. So found adaptors for metric to AN6 will see how that works out. If you have the small tank finding a bracket is really hard but the larger one isn't too bad. I found a Denso pump on amazon for a decent price, most of what I read said there is a difference and denso makes pump for Toyota.

Welcome!!

Separated Fuel Pump Assembly From Fuel Line

So I guess the best way to separate the fuel line and fuel pump hanger/assembly. 1. Plumbers wrench. 2. Vise grip.
After I separated the two, I was able to clean both very well. Both are back attached to the truck. Hopefully I can get it running soon.
