84 4x4 22r knocking from bottom half
Aloha guys.....so i just got done with the rebuild of the bottom half of my 22r...and as i said before im still hearing a slight knocking. .im about to go pick up a used 84 22r and im going to completely rebuild that block and swap it with mine. My question is where should i start looking for a master rebuild kit. .with new crank connecting rods pistons the whole 9 any advice would be greatly appreciated. ..much mahalos and respect

Ok right on thank you...does that kit come with everything ill need?..from what ive seen on the Internet (i live in hawaii so i have to get almost everything over the Internet ) the kits have some of the parts i need and ill have to get another kit to get the rest of the stuff...ill look into the one you told me about. ..thank again

has the core engine ever been overheated?
ideally you would take the bare block to a machine shop and have the deck checked for straightness, the crank bore and piston bores checked for roundness, cross-hatch in the bore, etc.

Yeah thats what i was thinking i should do...thank you so much for all the help. .im super stoked on this forum. Ill call around to a few shops and find out how much it will cost to shave it down clean it up. Much mahalos and respect

they should only have to cut the deck if it's warped, but if they do that, you'll need to also have them cut the top of the timing gear cover to match.
you might get lucky and just have to run a hone through the piston bore, and build it... if the crank bore has to be align-bored, or the crank turned, it'll require a different size of bearing, so you want to know what the measurements are before ordering the bearings.
the machine shop should also measure the piston bore to make sure it's perfectly round, if not they'll probably have to bore it out, which i think means that it'll need bigger diameter pistons and rings than stock.
so don't spend a penny until you get the block evaluated, and if the block needs a lot of expensive work, it might be better to find another one.
