Will a 91 22re starter fit in an 84 22r???

I swear I did a pretty thorough search and I couldn't find this answer.
I was at the JY today browsing through the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen 22r and 22re series and I noticed a 91 with a shiny new starter. Tomorrow I plan on pulling it and putting it in my buddies 84. I need to know if it will work.
Thanks

Yes.

And just so you know, there is no aftermarket starter that's better than the OEM one, and IF one ever develops problems it's usually $5 brass contacts... that you should get from the dealer... Or Rodger Brown.

All 22R starters are the same.

And the V6 starter will have threads where a bolt goes from the back of the BH into the starter. One stud, one hole is threaded... None of the 22R holes are threaded.

This starter I found was in a 91 22re. I got all ginned up to pull it and put it in my buddies 84 that is why I started this thread.
Thanks for the reply's!
I agree there is no better starter than the OEM. This 84 4x4 had the original OEM starter in it. It had finally failed after 26 years of faithful service!
The shiny new starter I saw in the 91 was none other than a Bosch but hey, what can you do?

You may need to get a new Alt bracket...

Plug for the alt..

and Delete the external voltage regulator from the fenderwall..
