I searched for years and the wait is over - 1982 1st gen is MINE!!
The wait is over!!
I finally found a 1st gen in great shape. My good friend had a friend who had one parked in his back yard. After a few weeks of back and fourth the guy DROVE it over to let me see it. As soon as I saw it I knew it was the one I was looking for. I am the SECOND owner. The guy bought the truck in 1982. He replaced the motor a few years ago. It has a new radiator and a few other odds and ends. Other than the rust the truck is in great shape. It is bone stock. The interior is immaculate! It even came with a canopy with yakima racks. Even has the original radio. I will have to find a new bed. The bed is beyond repair but the front is decent and will take some work. The motor is in great shape. Compression is good and other than the valve cover gasket leaking everything else is decent. The timing chain needs to be done soon.
I couldn't be happier. I picked the truck up and drove it around for a couple of hours. It drives GREAT, shifts flawlessly and 4 wheel drive is super smooth!
I can't wait to start building it. My plans are to bring it back to life. I want to keep it stock as possible with just a slight lift.
Did I mention I only paid $500.00 and included in that was a cherry 1980 repair manual.
when I picked it up before the car wash
and after the car wash..
wait for it..
wait for it...
and as I was signing this and that he came into the room and said "I don't know if you want this, I bought it way back but never used it too much."

Seriously toyospearo???!!!! You have, in my humble opinion, the best sas'd truck with the best flatbed i've ever seen and now you go and do this to me? You live on the coast and have a killer job. On top of that you're going to have a 1st gen daily driver? Same color as well? Next thing you know you're going to own a sweet fj40 then who knows maybe a trophy truck just for grins. Seriously what's next? I can only live vicariously through you and watch in awe as you pick up another sweet truck. Nice find man i'm truely envious. Looking forward to your restoration and build of this rig. Send me those floor mats!

That is a really solid starting point man - good find! I don't think I've ever seen a cleaner original interior than the one in those pictures.
I always liked the look of the stock 1st generation 4x4. That tie down system is super convenient too!
