Different Rotors on Solid Axle???

Different Rotors on Solid Axle???

I'm rebuilding an '81 solid axle and I was taking the rotors off today and found out that one of the rotors is a 6 hole and the other side is an 8 hole?
The whole unit itself looks identical and the locking hubs are the exact same on both sides. The inside bearings and everything are also identical.

The wheel studs are also different lengths?

Could one of these be an aftermarket hub\rotor assembly?

Any info would be helpful, I'm so confused and worried at the same time...

got me stumped...lol

were there only 6 holes on the 8 hole side being used?

prob all someone had layin around at the time, and the demensions worked so they used it..it looks like the rotors are the same size?...are the calipers the same? id say thats something else to look at too

Get the right 6 lug OEM replacements or upgrades and throw the booty mod crap away.

Were the 2 extra holes threaded? They look like the type of thing that you put a bolt through to "press" the rotor off the hub (like on a rear drum). Probably just different brands

Yep, the calipers and rotors are the same size! The hub dimensions are indentical too.

Yes, the extra two holes were threaded like they're suppose to be though on the solid axle hubs. It's the 6 hole side that has 6 seperate bolts holding the rotor on to the hub unit, then underneath were the 6 wheel studs that go through the hub unit. I'll see if I can get a picture of the hubs up tonight.

Sounds like one side had the IFS hub on it and the other side had the normal Hub on it. But I'm no expert.

i think the 6 hole rotor is 79-80 and the 8 hole rotor is 81-85. the two extra holes aid in pulling the rotor.
somebody probably grenaded a spindle assembly and pulled one from a 79-80 as a replacement part

Ya, I've been doing a bit of research and I'm going to have to agree with you.

Since all the specs are the same I'm just going to rebuild everything and put it back together. All the gaskets for the hubs are identical. Both sets of wheel studs are in good shape and the threads are equal length, so I'll run a die over them and use them agian. As for the rotors, I'll just buy the 8 hole style because the 6 main holes have the same pattern so I can use them on both sides, it's just one side won't take advantage of the 2 extra holes.
