81-82's had a double roller long chain, 83-84 had a single roller long chain. 85-95 had a single roller short chain.

You sure your motor is original? If yours has a single roller chain it's not an 82 motor. And the double roller will not work.

you need the 83 timing chain not the 82.

CHAIN SUB-ASSY 13506-35011 1982.07-1983.07
CHAIN SUB-ASSY 13506-38010 1978.08-1982.07

They also sell a double chain coversion kit with new cover. I think through LC engineering. Might even sell just the cover.

wrong. That kit is to convert an 85-95 22r engine to dual row not a pre-85 engine. The timing cover in that kit will be too short for his motor.

Not sure what's actually involved in changing over those motors to dual row. It might be just as simple as changing over to the 81-82 timing cover. But not sure.

^^^^^^ Oh didn't know it wasn't for older engines just remember seeing it a while back. But you may have something there with the swap thing from an older engine.

you will need to order a shorter oil pump spline drive for the earlier motor to convert to dual roller chain

If I wanted to look at the different components in the diagrams and parts listings between the two I can probably figure it out. But only gonna do that if the P.O. wants to convert it. Might be a shorter water pump as well, but not 100% on that either.

just that you won't need to open it up around the next 120K, heard that the single roller is good just make sure to use the metal backed guides. the single has less drag.

11302 COVER SUB-ASSY, TIMING CHAIN OR BELT 11302-38010 1978.08-1983.07

81-84 timing covers are the same looks like. Guess I should have looked up my parts references.
