1983 Pickup Project
Bad News: Well, the truck I was just on the verge of buying for $750 (running '83 pickup with 33's etc etc) was snatched out from under me yesterday by a guy who offered 1700 (listed price was 1750).
Good News: I found a 1983 toyota pickup for sale without an engine, 31" tires,6" suspension, 3" body, slight rust in the usual places, and a really clean interior for sale for $500 negotiable and the guy offered to meet me 1/2 way between our cities.
Projected idea: If I go about buying this truck, I need to make it into a reliable DD but a capable off road rig. On top of it, I'd like to add that the budget is going to be very strict on the vehicle. I currently have a '91 4Runner that I think I can sell for about 5K, but it's my only source of transportation currently.
Let's dream for a moment and say that I get the truck for 300 cash and have (conservatively) ~1K to spend on the truck. What would you do?

take out the body lift, put a 22r in it from a junker, and fix the rust, make it run right, sell the 4runner and dump everything into it to make it super d.d.
OR if it doesnt flex for ลลลล sell the lift springs and put some cheby or f150 rears, then some rears up front. then find some off brand 33s or whatever you can find.
I got my 22re w/ computer for 650, for my 4runner though......650
I love my junker leave springs are 20 bucks for a pair.............40
misc chit, all fluids and spark plugs, etc...............................100
and then some other stuff to get the suspension right, shocks,
brake lines, shackles, drop hanger.......................................200
bam

Finally someone broke the ice on this after 20 views. I was conversing with some friends and created a spreadsheet as to what I think I might do.
Keep in mind these numbers are all pre-tax and supposing that I sell the 4Runner in the process...
I decided on 35x12.5-15 BFG M/T's x5 = 914.95
Rock Crawler Series 97 15x10, 6 on 5.5 x5 = 344.95
The front bumper is bent in (stock) so I figured that I might as well go with a smittybuilt tube bumper.
Smittybuilt Front Tube Bumper = 319.99
I plan on buying a 1UZ-FE Lex V8 to put in it and budgeted 750 for the engine and accessories. I found one for 550.
Truck = ~300 cash.
Misc. Parts and Labor = 2000 (don't want to miss any hidden costs).
Overall total: 4629.89
All labor will be performed by my dad and I aside from any fabrication that needs to be done.

I have a 22R with 128K miles. It hasn't run in almost 3 years. But it ran well when it did run. I'll make you a hell of an offer - FREE. Here's the catch - you have to help my pull it out of the truck. The truck is currently sitting in my mom's garage. You can even have the transmission, and anything else you want off the truck except the t-case.
Let me know if anyone is interested.
