1980 longbed defrost problem

My truck won't pass safety due to my dash lights went out and my defrost doesn't work. Any suggestions on the defrost problem? Thanks!

Welcome to Yotatech!!

Did these problems start at the same time?

When you say your defrost doesn't work, do you mean the blower will not work on any fan speed or no air comes out of the defrost vents when you turn the fan on and select defrost?

Did anything stop working at the same time as these problems?
Check for blown fuses and clean ground connections.

The more information you can give us, the better answer we can give you!

I think I blew a fuse with the dash lights, any idea where that fuse might be? It doesn't say on the fuse box. When I bought the truck the lights worked fine up until the other day. The defroster hasn't worked in awhile I'd assume.

I just checked to see if it blows anything hot/cold, I couldn't feel anything coming through. If there is any other misc info I can provide please ask if I'm missing any good details.

Thanks for the reply! I'v been stressing this problem for awhile now.

There isn't that many fuses in the box, pull them onE at a time and reinstall as you go until you find a blown fuse.

Can you hear the blower motor running when you turn the switch on? My 1980 is easy to hear the blower motor running. If you don't hear the blower motor, then it more than likely is a blown fuse. If the blower motor works and there is no air out of the ducts, a duct hose may be off or the cables that switch the air flow may be off or broken.

Check the rheostat (dimmer switch). A lot of times that can fail and render you lightless.

The defrost could just be a poorly adjusted cable on the slider mechanism (assuming the blower is working)
