some people swear by the k and n filters but i've never bought into the hype....yeah it's reusable but do you think you actually get all the dirt out when you clean it?....not possible...maybe most of it but not all of it....more airflow?...think about this....that means less filtering....that's the only way it could be possible from an engineering standpoint...i'm not saying a k and n won't work but i wouldn't recommend it....i mean just stop being cheap and go pay $20 for a normal air filter and change it out according to the maintenance schedule....oh and yeah i used to use fram oil filters all the time in the past but i've heard bad things about them so i only use factory oil filters in my cars and trucks now.....other than that i hear the mobil 1 oil filter is a good one to use
use a wix oil filter best ive used.
i have k&n air drop in and saw no improvement as far as noise, throttle response, mpg etc. only good that comes with it is longer life and reusable, ive had paper filters only go 5k before they were trashed and at around 15 bucks a pop it gets spendy vs. a 10 dollar oil kit

I used the k&n drop in for several years and thought it was great especially when I cut the front on my airbox out. Then I bought an Air Raid cold air induction kit and that thing was awesome. Quality is much better than my friends FIPK in my opinion.

I just switched to the K&N filter this past weekend. I'm not expecting much HP gain or better mpg's... just got tired of spending $10-15 on new filters every year. What I've found in researching the K&N drop in filter is that it will increase your gas mileage over time, meaning that you can supposedly run this filter up to 50K miles without cleaning it whereas most other filters start effecting your mpg's after 12-15K miles.

uhm i think one of the best things to say here would be k&n has its ups and downs some people like them some people dont. i think its a great investment for the street! not in muddy and dusty areas due to the high air flow letting in the dust vs on the street not really dusty. i have 2 papper filters in my toolbox and my k&n under the hood but when its time to go wheelin i swap them. keeps the intake cleaner using the paper off raod and saves cleaning the k&n more often.

K&N's aren't just horribly efficient at filtration efficiency, but they're also the worst "reusable" gauze type air filter on the market. Their quality has dropped as they've become a household name and market leader. They use only 4 layers of media in their air filters, many other companies use as many as 8 layers.
Anyway, you wouldn't put a "one-size-fits-all spark plug in your truck would you? Or how about a universal motor oil? Then why would you entertain the idea of putting a filter in a Toyota that was not designed for it at all?
K&N only makes one kind of filter...That K&N filter you put in your 4Runner or Tacoma is made of the exact same filtering material K&N recommends for motorcycles, diesels, old carbureted farm trucks, race cars, etc. What does that tell you?

could never afford K&N filter..so for my air filtration needs i use spectre. ya you would have to do a little custom work but its worth it. better sound, better gas mileage, plus was reusable.

I had one for about 10 years. Who knows if their was a performance gain, but it definitely paid off in the long run. Two $12 cleaning kits was way cheaper than countless filters.

you can spend 12-15$ a yr on a new filter and know that its perfectly clean when it goes in, or spend 50$ on a K&N and know that its never going to be as clean as it was when you took it out the box...
im sure i can come up with 15$ a yr. not that big a deal to me haha

So idk of they are the same, but I am looking to put a k&n cold air intake on my 87 yota, I just got 35s and am looking to add a lil bit more power to my 22R to push them tires around.
Hmmm good idea?

I love my drop in K&N I used to go in the store and consider buying it but didn't see myself spending 40 bucks for it but one my old lady said to just buy it cause she was tired of me looking at it and not getting it so I did and it was well worth it!!!

i like the drop ins.
ive put an fipk into a 6.0l diesel ford, 4.0l tacoma and into my current 5.3l gmc. in all three i noticed more punch and better sound with better gas milage. i clean it every year or so without a problem.
