I have been considering one of the Grant Removeable Steering wheel systems for a few years. TrekkerPaul gave me a Grant steering wheel out of truck he parted out so thought it was a good excuse to order one.
Cheapest place I found was from Jegs. Ordered on Friday, got here today(tuesday) awesome service IMO. About $50 lower than Auto Zone and $90 cheaper than Grant's List price of $215

Install time is probably 20-30 minutes or so.
Put the Grant Removeable steering wheel security thing in today:

Put the key in, a slight turn to the left and pop off the steering wheel:

Put the Red 'can't drive this one' warning in:


I think this will be a great way to help me keep my truck around...

I got one.

I ground the ugly lettering off the front, blasted it and powder coated it as that red is hideous.

Have had mine installed for about 7-8 years now. With the soft top on the 4Runner, no real way to lock the vehicle as you can just pop a few snaps and unlock the door. Only "problem" I have is that sometimes I run out and hop in the truck and realize I forget to grab he steering wheel out of the house, doh!

But I do find it handy when working under the dash, no steering wheel to work around and bump your head on.

I want one of these. Go away tweeker is cool too. Mine has the cruise control on the wheel so I guess I'm screwed. I don't really use it. I don't like the factory alarm.

Did the adaptor move the steering wheel out 3-4 inches? I already take up all the room and can't afford the space. Thinking about picking one of these things up.

I didn't measure before/after but don't think I noticed much change in the wheel position. Probably does depend on the exact wheel you get whether it is flat or more dished (mine is almost flat). I also went with a smaller than stock wheel to give me more room. Nice thing is if you do need more room, like to put on or take off ski boots for example, just pop the wheel off and you have as much room as the passenger seat.

with the grant steering wheel i chose i noticed that the turn signal stalk was a bit further than with the stock steering wheel...

I have the Grant Steering Wheel system on my 89 4runner and love it! It's piece of mind as I run a soft top all year long...I travel a lot of backroads while hunting, fishing, camping, etc and it's a great security feature. We all know there is nothing 100% fool proof to a professional car theif, but if a tweeker is in the area and looking for a quick steal, good luck going anywhere without a steering wheel (they're already high and can't think straight, so solving that problem won't happen). I also run tube doors sometimes, so it's a must for me - I know some people don't like the red paint, but red is an international color of 'warning', and it stands out so it serves that purpose. I highly recommend, just make sure you order the install kit and right wheel for your app.

I thought about this for my truck. Someone suggested that it might not make that big of a difference because these are kinda common and if someone wants to steal your truck they can just come back with a steering wheel. Not sure if that's the case, but as 1985yota4x4 said... nothing is fool proof to the pro, but it will surely make the common tweaker think twice or confuse the hell out of him. When I get another chassis, I'm going to seriously reconsider putting one of these on.

I purchased a 1985 chevy truck and its got the steering wheel removal security system on it. The previous owner lost the key to the system and the ignition key. I tool the entire steering column out and took it to a locksmith and he couldnt get the steering wheel removal lock open! Is there something we are not doing or there any tricks or secrets we need to know? Please help?
