1993 Toyota Pickup Undergoes Amazing Transformation

While teardown on the two engines continued to progress, the OP got to work on the rear of the Toyota pickup.

“While I have been working on the engine, I have also been working at the back of the truck. There’s a lot of work to be done there. I want to get the axle out so that I can replace the brake backing plates. The fuel tank needs to go. All the brake and fuel lines need to be replaced. Leaf springs need sandblasted, painted and new friction pads. And of course, the frame itself needs to be cleaned up and painted.”

Unfortunately, this led to the discovery of a severely rusty rear axle. Luckily, the OP had a couple of extras laying around. Rust had also gotten the best of the driver’s side cab corner, but it wasn’t anything a little fiberglass couldn’t fix!

The more the OP dove into the bodywork, the more rust damage he found. Which isn’t a surprise given his geographical location. But while most folks would call him crazy for taking on such a massive project, the OP does have valid reasons for doing so.

“Although these trucks have stopped depreciating and are actually seeing their value go up (especially on clean examples), you probably cannot make a good economic case for doing the work that I am describing. But thankfully there is more to life than economic calculation is able to account for.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. And you can bet we’ll be watching this project closely. You can do the same by heading over here. And while you’re there, drop some encouraging words for the OP to keep him going on this massive project!
