Heater Control Light/Glove Box Light Replacement
3/30/2003

Jason (L33T35T 4Runner on the forums) shows you how to replace the dash light behind the heater controls.
This fix is for the '90 to '95 4Runners, and the '89 to '95 trucks.

Without knowing how to do this, it can be very frustration to say the least.
When I (Corey) bought my 4Runner the light was burned out, and I had received all kinds of advice on how to fix it including taking the glove box out and going in behind the dash.
Not so...read on here and see how simple this is to do the correct way.

"Heater Control Light"
Tools needed:
Your fingers
Paper clip, small item to slip in behind the panel and pull out
Sylvania # 74 bulb

1. Remove the four knobs from the slider controls.

2. Using any flat utensil (paper clip works great) pry the face plate off... it seems fragile... and CAN break... but it's quite flexible.. to a point. at this time the A/C button comes out.

3. Front face removed.

4. Picture is of removal of magnifier thing for the light... simply pull back clip with one finger (on right side) and pull out unit with small screw driver or finger from top.

5. Magnifier. removed.... bulb exposed. you can simply pull it out with your hand.
Do not lose the bulb condom as the dealers don't have them.
You would have to scour the junk yards, or buy them from AutoMeter.
They are on their website, but you will have to hunt for them, no direct linking.

The part # for the bulb is a Sylvania 74 at most auto parts stores for under $1.
You can also get it at the dealer, and the part # is 09081-11018, but they run around $2.63 or more each.

"Glove box light"
Tools needed:
10mm socket
Phillips screw driver

1. To remove the glove box light, unscrew the 10mm bolt bottom right of glove box, unscrew 3 screws inside top glove box.
2. Close the glove box closed.
Unscrew the last screw on the bottom left outside glove box.
Support bottom of dash with hand, open glove box. let hang, and you should be able to see the bulb.
