CB Radio Installations In Toyota Trucks/SUVs

Quite often we get a lot of CB posts about where to install a CB radio in our Toyota's.
This article is to show off some of the installs our members have done and how they mounted the CB and the antenna.
More info can be found on a member's home page if they have included a link.

The Cobra 29 NW ST radio with Sound Tracker is a nice unit, although it's a bit large.
It has a built in SWR meter which makes it real easy to set the SWR and not mess around with an external SWR meter.
I also have the unit "hotrodded" to put out 25 watts or so.
More info on that is on my CB page on my website.

The Firestik II antennas (mines a 4' one) feature a screw tip on top of them for adjusting the SWR.
These a very nice antenna, and I recommend you use a heavy duty spring with it.

Stuart's CB
in Renton WA. stocks these  Hustler quick disconnects for around $25, and they are by far the best ones made.
My antenna gets taken off nightly to prevent theft, and it has never let me down.
As stated on my CB webpage, don't buy the cheap $10 ones elsewhere, they can't compare to the quality of the Hustler QD2 model.
Here is
a site I found through Google that also carries them.
Trust me, this is the best you can get.
One simple push/turn and it's off, reverse to put it back on.

I'm also running a heavy duty spring that mounts into the mount for the top tube on the ARB bumper as seen above.
The spring can be bought at any good CB shop.
The ARB mount can be had from 4x4 Connection.

My homepage has more info on my CB setup.

I installed my Cobra 19 DX II in my 2nd Gen 4Runner where the ashtray is.
All you have to do for this instillation is take out the ashtray, unscrew the ashtray mount (2 screws) cut out the back plastic piece of the dash where you are going to mount the radio (so that it will fit flush with the dash) and use some Velcro on the top of the CB to keep it in place.
When I bought my ‘94 4Runner it already had the wiring and antenna mount in it, so all I had to do for the antenna was go and buy a Maxrad antenna to fit the mount.

Nobody, 1999 4Runner
I purchased this Uniden pro520XL many years ago.
The way I mounted it actually gives me a nice leg rest and the controls are easy to adjust while steadying my hand against the transfer case shifter.
It has served me well.

My CB is a Midland 77-235ESP2

The antenna is a 36" Wilson fiberglass antenna.
