    the 3.4 conversion on a previous 3.0 is not that hard. The only really hard parts are reworking the cross over pipe to dump out on driver side to match factory and the wiring. The wiring just takes a lot of time! I think i was down less than a week. http://www.yotatech.com/f160/ is the 3.4 swap forum section. READ THROUGH ALL OF THESE. It will give you a better idea of whats involved in the swap.

I have a 1989 4runner with the 3.0 V6. I hate it! it always runs hot and has no power. i wana swap to a 3.4 or a 22re how hard would it be? i need to no if the 3.4 would line up with stock motor mounts and any tanmission problems i may have any and all help will be appreciated!
