XP Service Pack 3 Available Now

It took about 15 minutes on broadband to d/l and install. It made an already fast computer noticeably quicker. Access from IE/Tools/Windows Update/Express. Nice!

Thanks Bob, installing it on my PVR PC in the other room first before I do it on my new gaming PC here.

Any quirks or anomalies pop up at all after installing it?

No problems at all for me. I didn't do anything besides defrag and registry clean before downloading and created a System Restore checkpoint just in case, but won't need it.

MS recommends checking for additional updates after the installation, but there weren't any needed on my system.

Definitely loads everything faster than before on an already fast system (same chip as your new desktop).

Cool.
The old PC is a 2.4c Intel Pentium.

The new one is the 6850 core duo 3.0 GHz on the gamer.
I can not imagine it being faster, it flies like lightening now.

I will have to check, because on both my new gaming PC and my new laptop, the old original UT runs slow because you have to disable one of the cores.

To bad this will not address the UT issue on my laptop though, as it has Vista Home on it.
But for true gaming, I will not run anything except for XP Pro.

Will let you know later if the old UT fares better on my new PC.

I second the recommendation to install XP Service Pack 3. I installed it from a microsoft server about a week ago, I noticed a speed improvement on both my windows box and my mac running XP in Fusion.
It is like a cumulative update but everything is optimized instead of installed patchwork one after the other. Everybody running XP should install it! IMHO XP SP3 is much more stable and generally easier than Vista. Of course the best of all worlds is to run it on an Intel Mac LOL

Ozzie, it indeed fixed the issue of the old original Unreal Tournament on newer faster gaming PCs.

I can now play it and leave both cores running
It works great.

Took a long tine to install on both the old 2.4 PC and the new fast PC.
What takes long is it backs up a whole bunch of stuff.

Both PCs are running stable.

I wonder if anyone can find out what they did to address the issue of older games not running on a duo core CPU unless you disable one of them?
All I know is it nice to be able to play the old UT from time to time.

Now they need to address that with Vista too so I can play it on the laptop.
