XP login

After todays format I can no longer boot straight into Windows.
It takes me to the page where I must choose my username account.
Mine is the only account on here.

It worked before a few Windows updates, now I have to click my name after each reboot.

In the past I used 3rd party software to fix this.
I know there is a Windows fix too, but my memory evades me, as my last format was two Septembers ago, and I have forgotten how to do it.

Corey I had the same problem and just deleted the ".net account" in control panel and users. Then it should boot in without having to choose an account.

Putz, that .net account is needed for users of ATI vid cards.
ATI drivers now require you install the MS .net thingy to work with the OS.
If you axe that .net account, you can no longer install newer ATI drivers with the big control center.

James, thanks for the link.
It only did this after some of the MS updates.

I had the answer all along.
I had saved a webpage from a few years back to my hard drive on this very issue, and it is tired to the .net thing from MS.

http://www.pnw4runners.com/index.php...omatically.zip

I will have to do it when I get time.
Time, can somebody loan me some?

I use tweakui from MS Power Tools to do this. It can be downloaded from the MS site, search for "Power Tools".

Oh yeah, I am a long time user of TweakUI.
I had forgotten all about it, as it is already setup on my other hard drive with an older copy of XP.

Thanks for reminding me man.
I still have tons of software to put back on, and will be hittin' the PowerToys tonight to load up quite a few.

So many things to reload after a format.

Now this is cool, very cool.
My Unreal Tournament 2004 folder is 9 GB with the game and all of the custom maps I have on it.
Normally when you format you have to reinstall a game to get it to work since it has to be regged with the Windows Registy.

I moved the whole folder from my old drive to the new one, and fired up an app a guy made for UT on the UT forum I frequent.
After firing up the app you simply put in the new destination on the new drive, and input your games CD key.
Hit the icon in the app, and it adds the key value to your Reg file.

Fire up game, it works just like it should.
Now if only it would for for World Of Warcraft.
It is on my old drive too for my son to play when he comes over and does not have his PC with him.

Looks like we will have to reinstall it.

TweakUI does not work!

When you use the auto logon for TweakUI, it does work if you reboot.
But once you shut off the PC, you get the logon screen again.
Then when you go into TweakUI, the setting has become unchecked.

So I used the info from my post above:

If you wish for your system to automatically logon to a user instead of having to enter a password or select which user you would like the following information should help. This will also be able to restore your automatic logon if you lost it during the installation of the .Net Framework on your machine (ASP.NET Machine Account).

Step 1:
Firstly start by opening your run box and enter control userpasswords2

Step 2:
When the user accounts window opens uncheck the box which states 'Users must enter a username and password to use this computer' and apply the setting. You will be requested for the username and password of the account you wish to automatically logon as for following reboots of your system.

Step 3:
If at a later stage you want a password back on your system, follow the same steps but recheck the box. In order to open user accounts you must be using an Administrator level account

I then shut the PC down all the way, fired it up, and it came into Windows perfectly.
