Would you rather have Laptop or Desktop?

I'm trying to decide on what I should get. I've reviewed the options and I think I'd prefer a laptop personally.

I use the computer for just a few things, music, Vidja games, cartoons, and forums. Having a laptop would clear up some space on my desk and I could take it somewhere if I wanted.

What about you guys? If you were to get a new computer, what would you want, and why?

IBM/Lenovo are the better of the laptops if you're looking for a computer that will replace your desktop. You can adapt it to do whatever you want, games, photos, music etc. Spendy though. Wouldn't bother with their X61 not worth the money. I just prefer the Lenovo over others, I'm sure you'll get 100 other opinions, do your homework on it and find the one that fits you. You may end up going through a couple to get the right one.

If that is all you would use it for, a nice laptop would suffice.
I use three computers full time at my home, as my needs are different.

The one I am typing on now is my super duper gaming computer I built last Christmas mainly to game with and surf.

The other PC is an older one that is retired to just one duty now, to record TV shows on its two TV tuner cards, and I then play back the shows via cabling to the TV set in the other room.

The laptop I got last Christmas as well I just use it to surf with when I am in my recliner watching TV in the living room.

Check out Dell laptops on their website.
I am perfectly happy with mine.
It is a 2.0 GHz duo-core CPU, two GB of RAM, 17" screen, and Vista Home.
Vista has only crashed about two times on since I have had it, not to shabby.
My Dell is the Inspiron 1720 (17" screen, 2.0 CPU)
It pretty much could be classified as a desktop replacement.

It has wireless built in for the Internet, and also if needed a CAT 5 inlet for that too for the Internet.
Very happy with it.

For gaming though, I prefer XP Pro all the way, that is what I loaded up on my gaming PC.

laptop works the most at my house. Cant drag the desktop out in the garage, but the laptops wireless! We got a el cheapo compaq from best buy for 400 bucks and its worked flawlessly for everything we have thrown at it.

Unless you plan to do 3D gaming or considerable photo/video editing, most of today's laptops will suffice as a replacement for a desktop.

I have a setup similar to Corey's, but I did just order a Dell Mini to see if it can replace my laptop for me. I pretty much just use my desktop for gaming. The convenience of a wireless network & the portability of the laptop, even just around the house, is great.

You can get a decent Dell/Compaq/HP laptop for $400 if you look around.

done both, and i prefer a desktop. sure, the portability of a laptop is great, but when something breaks in either.... you're going to pay at least twice the repair cost for a laptop.

also the expandability is much easier in a desktop, where as a laptop is limited to only upgrading ram and hd.

My laptop is surgically attached to my lap! Once I got a laptop, I found I never use by desktop. I have a new house with an office and my desktop sitting in it....I never go in there!

I have an Apple Macbook Black...Love it...I like the smaller size over the Mac Book Pro, but thats just me...I think a laptop should be small and portable.

My brother is a lead programmer at his company and he's been telling me for months to buy a desktop, but I'm still leaning towards laptop. The only two things that bother me is break/repair cost and upgradability, but.. I had an old GEForce 2 in my current desk top until about a year ago, so I guess upgradability shouldn't matter that much huh?

I love my new MacBook. I guess i'm just more of a laptop guy. I'd love to have a powerfull desktop too, I would drool over a tricked out Mac Pro but since i had to choose between desktop and laptop, I had to go with laptop.

Im beginning to think corey is one rich dude

A good option could be to shell out a bit more for a sorta gaming laptop, not too hardcore, you could get one with a nice amount of ram, a huge screen and a good speed dual core processer, for prolly about the same a desktop with similar specs would run you.

Laptops are nice if you travel a lot but I prefer a nice desktop with a huge monitor and my laptop now just sits and gathers dust. Typically cheaper (desktop) and I can surf the net and do anything I need to do while away on my phone.

desktops usualy last longer than laptops, because its alot easier to upgrade, and they dont run as hot because they are bigger

It is a PC version, I do not have a console.
I wish it came in black to match all of the other stuff, but it only comes in white.

I freaked out my youngest son a few months back.
He was playing Unreal Tournament III on my PC.
I was sitting on the bed and reached for the controller that he had not seen yet.

I started making him twirl around and shoot, and he thought there was a bug at first

It is a wireless controller too, so it is pretty cool.

I can not operate it though very good, as I am a mouse/keyboard person when it comes to first person shooters.
I am sure it would be good for a game like WarCraft or other massive online player game.

If you really wanted A black Controller to match your setup you can just buy a regular black 360 controller and it should work with your wireless adapter you got sitting there. Of course I don't think I'd spend $50 just to get something I already had in anouther colour.

Hey, Boeing is hiring.
They are even hiring during the strike, but corps tells them they do not have to report to work until the strike is over which I think will wrap up here in a few weeks.
