Wireless USB Port? Does it exist?

I want to hook up my webcam in the garage, but don't want to bring the computer out there.

Is there a wireless USB port? Kinda like a HP Jetdirect box but wireless and USB.

Maybe something like a print server for a wireless network would work.

But that is just a "maybe."

Hello there HB,

There’s a whole bunch of wireless webcams out there – just depends on what you’re planning on doing with it. Here are a couple of sites:
http://www.dlink.com/products/category.asp?cid=60&sec=0
http://www.veo.com/products_network.asp

You probably know that anyone driving around your area of the city can tap into your webcam when it’s on. There’s normally two types of people cruisin’ around trying to “hack” into webcams – the majority are sicko’s nosing around and some of those are looking for “special” shots to post on the internet, while the other type are either “bird-dogs” or the burglars themselves looking to find an unoccupied home and learning exactly where your camera/s are set up so they can enter undetected and disable the camera.

If you hope to prevent/identify theft, well, most thieves today realize a lot of homes have camera’s installed and will wear ski-masks to counter your camera. Webcams also don’t do well in court either as the defense will show how easily it is to manipulate it digitally. For court, tape is better.

Normally, the best all-around solution is to hard wire the webcam. If your computer is FireWire capable you’re in business with these:

I’m sure there’s a lot more FireWire cameras out there but I just did a quick Google search and came up with these. I think with FireWire you can run a 100-foot cable from the camera to the computer and be in complete “stealth” mode.

Hope to see ya in Johnson Valley end of April.

Greetings,
Try a website called www.x10.com. They have what you need. They have wireless and also ones that run on batteries if there is no available power. The stuff is not expensive either.
