Windows 2k SP4...

For all you IT folks out there, who's been having problems setting up Windows 2000 Pro SP4?

It seems like every computer I set this up on runs slower than if I were to set it up with XP. The CD I use (provided to me by my work), doesn't have SP4 slipstreamed (I'm working on that right now). So, I do a bare basics 2000 install, then get all the necessary updates, which should be fine, right? Well, I'm installing it on machines that are more than capable of running 2000, and they're just so slow after installing all the updates. What gives? I'm about to give up on this OS altogether and just stick with a slimmed down version of XP.

Is there something I'm missing? All 2000 installations I've seen or used before have been lightning quick on the slower PIII's without much RAM. The only thing I can think of is that SP4 had some recent updates that's slowing the computer down a LOT. Only after disabling quite a few services and stuff am I able to get the computer running like it should. Startups and shutdowns are painfully slow. Any ideas?

i'm finding the opposite...

win2k with 256 seems to load slower than XP pro.

and the disk trashing is worse... of course i could imagining all that.

i'm gonna try to update a win2k laptop running 256 megs with a lowend p3.

right now, it takes about 2 minutes to get to the login screen...

sigh...

Glad to know I'm not the only one noticing this.

yeah right!

I just turn off as many bells and whistles as I can. I've gotten XP to run pretty well on machines way below the required minimum Microsoft recommends.
