uploading video form digital video camera

i just got a JVC GR-DX75u . it is a mini dv video camera. i can not for the life of me figure out how to upload the pics. when i try doing it on windows movie maker it sees the camera than i hit upload and it says "an interface has to many methods to fire from"...... the usb isnt registering on my computer.... does anyone know how to do it. its really pissing me off!

on my cannon optura 20 you can only transfer the pics (stored on an SD card) via USB and only tranfer video on firewire.

firewire is the cord that you plug in from USB (from computer) to your camera. that cord is called firewire. to upload 'pictures' when you first plug in your "firewire" cord and also turning your camera on, Windows XP will detect a new hardware. so it will automatically install the driver for you. if it doesn't. refer to the disc that came with your camera. but by the looks of your mini dv video camera, you might have to do some manual recording on your computer to play videos. but if it's just picture, it should already have a folder and files with .jpg in them. if there's anymore problems, post them here. ;p

if you have a dvd/mini dv camera. you will have to manually record it to decode into a .mpeg/.avi file. but for some camera, when you record, it will automatically decode to a video file.

Firewire is firewire. USB is USB. The cord that goes from the USB port on your computer to the camera is a USB cord. The cord that goes from the firewire port to whatever device is a firewire cord. lol.

Firewire and USB perform the same function, firewire just has a faster transfer rate. As for the pics, I have a JVC GRD model. Under the flip out screen there is a blue switch that switches from video to memory card. If you took pics with your video camera, they are on that card. When you switch it to "memory" your PC will process for a moment, then a new Icon will apear in your "my computer" section listed as REMOVABLE STORAGE or something like that. you can access your card through that icon just like you would a hard drive. On the other hand if you rocorded a video, you need the software that came with the camera to bring the video from the digital tape in the camera, to your hard drive. At that point you can also edit that movie. Hope that is of some help. One more thing, if your USB ports are not activated, you can turn them on in the BIOS. You can also use that same software to extract the pics from the card.
