scanner problem

Hi

I have a Visioneer 8900 USB scanner used mostly for scanning prints.

The problem is that it sometimes puts a pink streak across the picture near the bottom. It goes across the entire image and is about half an inch side. Usually a rescan will get a scan without the pink streak, but sometimes I have to try rescanning several times.

Anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?

Thanks.

no guarantees here, but often the pink streak is caused by a corrupt jpeg file. try scanning directly to a non-compressed file format such as .tif, and see if the problem persists. also, is the streak in precisely the same place every time, or does its location vary? if it varies, then it's not necessarily the scanner itself, but perhaps the cable. if you have a different USB cable you could use temporarily, try that (if the location of the streak varies).

It's always in the exact same place. I will try a different format if I can. Thanks for the response.
