put a password on a folder?

hey in my pictures folder, i have some.. err.. pictures i wouldnt want my parents to see when i head off to boot camp, but i want to leave the computer open for them to use. the pictures are nothing bad, just me and some friends smoking questionable stuff (from last year) only keeping so i can put it in an album one day, so my kids will believe me when i tell em i was a little stoner, LOL. but anyways, is there a way that i can password protect a single folder without password protecting the whole computer? cuz i dont want to delete them, but id rather delete them than my parents and my sister seeing them. please help. BTW i am using XP home

Dont upload pictures of you smoking weed onto photobucket.... thats just dumb,

put them on a CD or a flash drive. you can pick up a 4GB flash drive for 40 bucks it'll hold a bunch of pics. Flash drives are more durable and dependable then CDs.

you also can make the folder "hidden" but it is still searchable.

if you had XP pro you'd be able to set security permissions better but with XP Home your limited. i'd throw them on the a thumb drive and call it a day.

Ya I'd change the names to something like a bunch of numbers so it'll be hard to find them by searching and then put them in a hidden folder. Unless you burn them to a CD witch would probably be the best idea.

Google has secure photo storage (if you check the right box).

There are also freeware file encryption and file hiding utilities, but what happens if the HDD dies?

Boot camp? I missed that. What branch? Best of luck and gimme 50.

the problem is screensaver and other apps that automaticly index photos for you, they could care less where it is located or what it's name is, if it has a picture extension, (jpg, gif, tiff, and so on) they will index it. This means that if your family installs some new photo program and it asks would you like me to search and find all the pictures on your hardrive for you and they say yes, all your photos are going to pop up.

Crappy work around, rename the extensions to something like .dll which wouldn't be messed with and could not be opened with a simple double click of somebody finds them.

Better would be to just get them off the PC.

they have their own computers, only reason my mom or sister would get on this is to go on myspace or play WoW or something.

Move all the photo's into a long list of folders, like the example

my computer
windows
fonts
dark star
sample

then just rename or hide all the files you want to hide and do a complete internet clean-up and then defragment and disc clean-up.

X2. You really shouldn't have to hide stuff like that.... set up another user account, and you can keep your account, and your folks can have theirs, everyone's a winner

Another user account works well for me. There's no password for that one so others have no trouble using it.

Yup 2nd user account of "guest account" for them is ideal, then password protect your account... Just make sure the guest account is not an administrative account because then they can see files under your pictures folder if they are in administrator mode...

I think everyone should be entitled to privacy... Hey I am dating troy and he prolly has stuff he doesn't want to share nor I want to see and visa versa. I mean my Truck Pron is pretty extensive and kind of salacious.... *grin*
