Portable Apps

I think these are pretty useful. They are portable versions for firefox, gaim, and several other apps. This allows you to save the app on a jump drive and retain all of your firefox or gaim settings when using them on a different computer. I use mine at work. They run off of the jump drive, so no installation is required. Anyone else use these?

I'll have to check that out. Might come in handy when working on other machines that are infested with spyware.

I like them b/c I can not install software on my computer at work, for security reasons. My supervisor is OK with me using them. It's nice to have all your browser settings on a different computer than your own (I guess I'm too peculiar about it)

those are cool.. the lab computers wont allow you to install programs.. now i will have gaim on my flash drive and will be able to do even less of my homework,

Yeah- I'm afraid the down side to this is the lack of productivity at school or work!

another very cool program i have recently found is Knoppix 4.0.2. its a bootable cd that runs a self contained version of linux. it supports USB flash drives, and even wireless. the best part is you have read only access to the HD and because windows doesnt ever load when you exit, there is NOTHING in the logs that you were ever there. so you pop this into a target machine, access the files you need, includeing the password hashes, and any sensitvie info, copy them to either a ftp site, or to USB. and they are none the wiser..... i mean when the system crashes, you can go in and quickly grab your files before you have to reformat the machine and lose everyhting... i love my hacking class this semester
