ping rate

ok, pc for dummies here! someone describe "ping rate" in laymans terms as it applies to games. is lower better? and just what the hell is it?

lower is better.

Ping is generally the time (in milliseconds) it takes for the data packets to get from your PC to the game server.
There is also hop count, which is the number of routers between you and the device you are pinging.
