This is my first crack at building a computer. I was amazed that when I got it all put together it worked and hasn't had any problems so far after a couple weeks use.

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 3.5ghz
MB: ASRock 890FX Deluxe 4
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 460 Hawk
RAM: 8GB G-Skill Ripjaws DDR3
HDD: main - WD Raptor 300gb / 2nd WD 1TB internal / 3rd WD 2TB external
PSU: Antec Earthwatts 650watt
OS: Windows 7 professional 64 bit
Optical: I think its a Sony DVD-RW yadda yadda it was $16 and it works great.

The case is a Sunbeamtech Transformer. It came with three 80mm fans and one 120mm. I have added one more 120mm for exhaust (its the green one in the back) and not pictured is the Cooler Master V6 CPU heat sink and fan.

ok, so since all the geeks hang out here (myself included), i thought i'd ask before buying:
looking at getting a toshiba laptop, something in the 18.4" flavor, topped with dedicated graphics, 4+ gig o' ram, and an i5 to top it off.
sound good? comments? hdd's are cheap, so i'm not too worried about that, but everything above is a minimum req.

and yes... i'll post pics when i get it

Not sure if it comes in 18" but check out their A665 series and look for "Optimus technology" - it uses the integrated graphics of the Intel Core i3/i5, plus GeForce graphics, and NVIDIA's software turns on/off the discreet GPU when needed/not needed, to save battery life. It's killer. ASUS and Lenovo also have Optimus.

if it wasn't for the nVidia GPU(s), the water cooling, and the OC to 4.2, our rigs would be very similar

is there some sort of internal radiator on that water cooling setup that I'm not seeing?

maybe I'll clean off my desk today and take those pics I've been meaning to, lol

Every time I see someone running water cooling, for some reason I cringe. Something about liquid and electronics. But great looking PC nonetheless.

I got to get some photos up of mine. Nothing special though.

hey, there are systems that are nothing but components sealed in pure water or oil. tap water is dangerous because of all the ions (cl-, fl-, etc.). pure (distilled) water is actually an insulator

How about a dirty PC, lol

It's been neglected for about 3 months months, and it's beginning to get loud...

I'm getting ready to clean it now, and I'll take some pics inside with the side panel off and post them, and I'll post the specs then too.

got it all cleaned up now it's running 10 degree cooler, and is 10 x's quieter, LOL

specs after photos

Cleaning those nasty intake filters (yes, my PC has air filters two on the front, and one on the side)

the little cord hanging down inside towards the front plugs into a transformer box mounted to the side panel for my UV light cathodes

and yes, that's an Apple sticker... more on that later

4 fan speed controller (front two intake fans on one, rear exhaust fan on one, top exhaust fan on one, and the UV cathodes are hooked to one so I can turn them on and off easily)

glancing through the side panel, all clean now

and of course the iPhone dongle stays close at hand

Specs:

MSI X58 Pro Motherboard
Intel i7 920 Processor (quad core at stock clock of 2.6ghz, and still on stock cooler)
Corsair XMS3 6GB triple channel RAM
ATI HD4870 X 1GB XFX graphics card
Hauppauge HD TV Tuner card (since this PC doubles as my TV and DVR as well)
1.3 TB of internal HD space (one 1TB drive, one 300GB drive)
single DVD-RW drive
internal bluetooth dongle
580watt power supply

I use this computer for everything from gaming, web surfing, photo and video editing, TV and TV recorder, personal jute-box, to doing my taxes. It's a play toy and a workhorse that so far has handled anything I could throw out it, and begged for more Which is good because that's exactly what I had in mind almost two years ago when I build it from the ground up.

It's primary operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium, but allow me to explain the apple logo on the side It also dual boots into the Max OSX 10.4, and is 100% stable and runs it like a Mac Pro at 1/2 the cost of a Mac Pro!

Future plans include doubling up the RAM to 12GB, putting an aftermarket CPU cooler on it (even though the thing idles at 27 degrees with all of the fans on low as it is now), and swapping to an nVidia graphics card (maybe two of them for SLI ), and when I upgrade the graphics card I'm also going to have to upgrade the power supply as well. If it were loud, I'd consider water cooling, but this thing is so quiet and stays pretty cool at it's stock clock as it is that I'm not even going to worry about going through the trouble.

OK Here is mine....

Just moved and had a lot of stuff packed up, so I got around to setting up my newer PC finally (in my *own office* - wahoo!!).

Here are the specs:
  • Falcon NW case - mid tower
  • EVGA X58 SLI motherboard
  • Intel Core i7 960 @ 3.2 GHz
  • 6 GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 RAM
  • (2) GeForce GTX 460s in SLI (I know, I still need to install my SLI bridge....lost in the move)
  • Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
  • 500 GB OS Drive
  • (2) 400 GB drives in RAID 1 array (photos and such)
  • DVDRW optical
  • 1KW PSU
...and a 30" Dell monitor

Here are some photos from tonight:

Oh, and no this is not mine (Damn!), but NVIDIA did work with Sierra Nevada to create a custom watercooled (not beer cooled) "kegputer" that also had CO2 up top in a tank and acted as a fully functioning Keg! It was a hit at the consumer electronics show this month in Vegas

Kris from work showing it off to media
