My AVG Anti Virus Review

I dunno what anti-virus progs you guys are running. But my Norton Anti-Virus virus defination updater expired. So I figured I've give AVG a try. It was an 11 meg file, so its pretty small which is a good thing.

On installation I got an error saying that I should update my version of Roxio Easy CD Creator because the current version could cause problems with AVG. Which is a cool little "tip" other then the fact I dont and never had Roxio installed on this computer, so I dunno what its talking about. So I checked to make sure it wasnt installed then I proceeded with the AVG installation which went fine.

When I ran AVG it worked pretty well I assume, it didnt find any viruses and I didnt assume I'd have any. The scan took ALOT longer then Norton, about 45 minutes. The update server is a little slow and sometime unreponsive.

AVG offers most of the features Norton has, active scanning, email scan, windows explorer right click scanning, scheduled scanning. All in all I think Norton is better as far as virus scanning but AVG is free so if you dont have anti virus I'd suggest getting AVG.

I have the paid version #7 of AVG, and it is the best anti virus app I have ever used.

Small foot print, not a memory hog like Mcafee was that I have used for years.

Never got the error you received about Roxio though, I do not use them either, I use Nero.

AVG has caught several viruses emailed to me through my addy here.
Now though, the server here is set to intercept and destroy all viruses, so it gets them before the mail even comes to me.

The server speed for getting updates is fine with me, never had a problem with that either.
Plus...they update their app several times a week either for the DAT files or the engine.

I check mine manually too, as I do not like auto stuff running in the background.

AVG has a free virus checker. You can download it from http://www.download.com

I use the free version of AVG it works well. The paid version receives more daily updates.
Kudos to CZ folks who are responsible for AVG. AVG was also listed as the best anti virus software by the old Tech TV Screen Savers.

I never realize AVG was Czech. My wife is born and raised there, and i spend a couple of Holidays over there. Beautiful country, very cheap and excellent beer!
