Lightscribe Hardware and Software

I bought a Sony DW-Q120A (Buy says the P/N is DWQ120AB2) lightscribe DVD burner (dual layer burner too!)

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...rs=1&#cReviews

It was from BUY.com and didn't come with any software disc of any sort.

In reading the Lightscribe info, they say that there are three parts to doing Lightscribe labelling.

First is the lightscribe drive - check.
Second is the hardware manufacturer specific software driver - um, no check.
Third is the labelling software or Lihtscribes own simple labeller software.

I found software that should work well from www.surething.com for labelling. I DL'd the trial, but it isn't seeing my drive. So, the software drivers are a must from what I'm gathering.

Any ideas where I can find these drivers? (Sony's site doesn't have this drive listed) How about a universal driver? (Tried the lightscribe generic driver from their site, but their installer file has an error in it and it won't execute fully).

I really need to make a couple of lightscribe discs, but this sure seems to be a major PITA.

i wouldn't think you need drivers for your drive. i cant find them. I did find some firmware though. is the drive even showing up in device manager or my computer? I'm reading reviews on newegg and it looks like others are having the same problem, while others have no problem at all with win xp drivers..

It only shows up as a CD drive for some reason (!) - this problem is compounded by the issue that it is installed on my wife's PC which has a problem that won't enable install of SP2 (!!). I'm thinking that is the reason I can't get the software to install properly. I found a set of generic drivers from HP (founder of the technology) - went to iinstall and got a similar error to what I got with the Lightscribe generic driver install.

Back to the drawing board....

BTW - thanks for the link! I was on Sony's site in a different area and could not find any reference to the unit..
