just bought a geforce 7950 and have questions

bought it, installed it, bought the molex to pci-e power adapter, installed that, and hooked up my monitor via an adapter (i still have a VGA monitor). nothing appears on the screen. the computer DOES find the card, and im downloading drivers for it now. do i have to have the adapter in a certain port on the card? (there are 2 monitor inputs). or is the adapter likely bad? any help would be appreciated!

it shouldn't matter which spot you have the adapter plugged in and i doubt its bad..

how big is your power supply?
did you install the drivers that came on the CD?
were you using on board video before you got the graphics card?

if your power supply is reccomended for SLI then its pushing plenty. ok go into bios and find the onboard video option, and turn it off/ switch it to your graphics card.. wich ever option it gives you.

I smell a game coming up.
What games are you going to play with it?
Night and day difference between it and the onboard graphics chip.

Later I am taking my 8800 GTS 512 MB out for an EVGA 280 with 1 GB of ram.
My youngest son runs that in his new gaming PC, and it is much faster than my 8800.

I believe this is my current card.
http://www.infotechnow.com/product_i...oducts_id=5404

The local shop I deal with has all of the 280s in the store, but this is the only EVGA one I see on the site that is a 280.
http://www.infotechnow.com/product_i...oducts_id=5712

The one I had looked at before though was up around the $700 mark, and superclocked.

I might sell the 8800 at a later date, not sure yet.
My friend might want it for his GF's build.
He is redoing her entire setup at a later date.

I mainly play Unreal Tournament III.
Running it currently at 1680x1050 on a 22" LCD.
The in game settings are on max, and the game runs flawlessly.
http://www.pnw4runners.com/gaming/ut...1050/index.htm

I may pick up Far Cry II, have not decided yet.

He he, I have that game.
Have not played it in years though.

My friend runs one of the best Counter Strike Source servers around, I am an admin on his forum, but I do not play that game.
http://www.allprogamers.net/
To realistic for me, that is why I play the UT series, as it is very futuristic and fast paced.

We use to run UT 2004, and UT III on it, but we ran into snags with UT III on it.
We may try and install and run it again some day.
It ran great until we installed the webadmin interface to control the game from any PC via web browser.
Useful for kicking cheaters and changing maps/styles, ect.
