I can't get this program off!

All of a sudden I'm getting this bogus program along with an icon down in my menu. It is dressed up to look like the windows security center, but it is def a scam. The buttons that lead to buying the program work, but the "off" button on the security monitor doesn't work. Every 90 seconds, the bubble comes up on the bottom saying, "we detected 30948045234805 threats, yada yada yada"

Anyway, I went to add/remove programs, and can't find it. I don't know how else to get it off. My mcafee virusscan has been doing me right for almost 3 years, but for some reason didn't pick this up I guess.

Stop looking at internet porn This happens all the time. If you have Windows XP go to the Start menu, then go to "All Programs", then "Accessories", then "System Tools", then "System Restore", then when the box pops up select "Restore my computer to an earlier time", then click "Next" and set it to a date before this all happened. It will restart and you shouldn't have the problem anymore.

I tried to system restore to every day from feb until last week, none of them worked. After every restart it would say " system could not be restored, no changes have been made"

That sucks. You must have run an EXE program for it to get this far. This is probably going to be a pain in your butt to get rid of.

I would do a spyware search on google, download something for free. Run it.

Apparently, the spyware wiped out your system restore record. That's really insideous. But I"ve seen it before.

If it's really stubborn and you have lots of room on your HD, another idea that worked for me once is to run another copy of windows and create another operating system on the same HD. Then, just boot from that from now on and abandon the old OS. You can retrieve your important data with the second OS. The spyware shouldn't be smart enough to find the other OS.

There are a few threads in this section too on how to get rid of the nasties.

I run a paid version of SpySweeper, and really like it.

who's you buddy, who's your pal? Click the link to get the removal tool.

http://www.spywareremove.com/removeUltimateFixer.html

Ultimate Fixer, associated with Ultimate Defender and Ultimate Cleaner, is another rogue security application that is secretely installed onto a computer with the help of a Trojan, which usually hides itself as a video codec. Once inside your computer, Ultimate Fixer purposely displays fake messages similar to the ones from Windows security center to make you believe that your computer is infected with spyware. If the message is pressed, the you get automatically transferred to the vendor's site. Ultimate Fixer does not actually detect parasites, but targets harmless system and software objects as threats in attempt to trick you into purchasing the full version of its rogue application. Ultimate Fixer shouldn't be trusted and is recommended to be removed immediately.

This really works! Unhook all of your peripherals, put your computer in your Toyota. Drive to the deepest lake you can find and hurl it out as far as you can throw it, which won't be far because it probably weighs about what your Toyota does.

Next find a buddy and get on his computer...go to the Apple Store online and buy a Mac. Wait about 5 days, receive package. Pull it out of the box, plug it in, hook up all your peripherals (install no software or drivers), turn it on and enjoy. Your computer will now be faster and come with most of the software you need to run your life. You will never have to worry about drivers or viruses again. If you want to get rid of something, just drag it to the trash. If you don't want pop-ups, just check block pop-ups in your browser. If you absolutely must run a windows program, do it in Parallels Desktop....it will run faster than it ever did on you PC. You can even throw your bottle of Advil in the lake too, you won't need it anymore.

I absolutely promise this will solve all of these ridiculous problems you are having. Once you realize what you are missing you will wonder why you didn't do this sooner. It will be like when you bought your first Toyota! Once you go Mac you never go back!

And yes I am a Mac guy!

*This is a dramatization...Nieuwendyk-25 does not support littering in anyway. The reference to the lake has been used to make a point and a Dumpster should be substituted in real life. Please use common sense. And as always remember to PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT!

Thanks for the link! That program doesn't remove it for free though, only scans for free. It costs 30 bucks to remove. It did however, detect the ultimate fixer. When I searched for free removal, I came across a 30 day trial of AVG software, which I know that my parents use on their PCs. The AVG scanned, but didn't pickup the ultimate fixer.

I use AVG and from my experience it sucks pretty bad...even the virus/trojens that it does detect...it can't remove them but it just stops them from working. It's free though so i don't complain....what I'm 90% sure will solve your problem is PREVX1 there is a free trail with it and it has wiped out everything that i've had a problem with. What you have now, i had too but i chose to format because it was a while and my computer was slowing down. I just chose to do it during the same moment you have now because i just don't feel safe having something on my computer and then erasing it....i would rather just wipe out all traces of the damn thing!

I would recommend formating but that could be a pain if you havn't backed up anything...PREVX1 is your solution to this problem probably...I have found that using a number of different free programs usually solves all of your problems. One program will most likely not remove everything. But for me PREVX1 always seems to be the last to remove the bug that just won't budge

AVG SUCKS!!! dont use it. I spend hours of time removing it from peoples computers at work. I suggest SpySweeper for antispyware..it works wonders.

You should be able to turn on your system restore from here:

Control panel\performance and maintenance\system restore\system restore properties

Uncheck the little box in the upper left, then click Apply
