Question DVD Shrink Users - Please Help

Hey guys I'm new to the DVD burning world. I have an NEC ND-2500A firmware 1.07, and I'm using Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's.

My problem is that after I finish my burn and use Nero DVD speed to check the disk and it comes up with read errors, and the test fails. When I put the disk in my TV top player it goes through all the chapters just fine, but I don't have time to sit down and watch every copy all the way through just to make sure. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm wading through all the tech talk over at cdfreaks.com, and I get the impression that this isn't normal. Instead of being the "nube" on that forum I figured I'd see if anyone over here has some experience with this stuff.

Thanks!

I don't ever check the burn after. I'm using an NEC 1300A with Shrink 3.0, (did'nt like 3.1) with Nero 6. It works everytime. Sometimes they won't read on my pc but always on my Panasonic dvd player. One weird thing is most wouldn't work on my Kenwood dvd changer so I swapped it out to the Panasonic. How much are you compressing. I have a 55" tv so I try not to compress as much, I'll still the extras and bring the menu quality down. You're not using dual layer media yet are you? That' spendy right now.
To answer you question, I have not seen that problem. What version of shrink are you on?

I would suggest 2 things first try another brand of DVD-R and check the drive manufacture for firmware updates, usually that fixes alot fo burn problems.. Maybe try to burn slower on current DVD's too.

Thanks guys, I got all the latest versions of everything, and it did actually turn out that the first batch just happened to have defects, the second brand was just poor quality (got 'em for free what do you expect) and the third batch has worked flawlessly. So now I'm up and burning like a madman .

Cool.
I only use Memorex or Fuji DVD+R media.
Never had a snafu with the Memorex discs.

And I like how DVD Shrink uses the Nero plug-in so you do not even have to fire up Nero to burn the video files to the DVD blank.

Yeah that is a nice option. Just curious Corey do you ever actually use DVD Decrypter? Does it rip the DVD better, or is that just for if you want to dump them to your hard drive for a later. I always just use Shrink, and even as low as 60% compression my movies play perfectly.

FYI the Fuji -R's at Best Buy are by far the best, I learned over at cdfreaks.com that the trick to buying locally is to only buy discs made in Japan. That gives you a great chance that thery are Taiyo Yuden, which are about the best quality disc around. If not them, most of the high end discs come out of Japan.

I have never heard of DVD Decrypter.
Is it part of Nero or Shrink?

I just use Shrink the way it comes, and sometimes I do have to deselect a region if it tries to set one for me after it tells me the disc was encoded that way.

Other than that, never had a problem with the Shrink.

I have never had a problem with DVD shrink. Are there any other good programs such as "Shrink"?

Here's an online media source:

http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go...rg=taiyo_yuden

I've also read to never use a paper label on any CD or DVD. Apparently they can vibrate and jam unless perfectly placed.

According to my friend who makes his living producing special interest DVD's, yes, that's the quick, easy and reliable way for casual home use. Although I think he called it something besides a sharpie. He has a type of printer that prints directly on the disc and said that's the foolproof way.

I have been using Ritek G04's (DVD-R's) and have never had a problem.

One thing I recently noticed, on my desktop, Shrink works great, but with my new laptop, I have to use DVD Decrypt to rip it to the HD, then Shrink to burn it, which adds an extra 20 mins or so. Anyone know how to get rid of the "I/O Error...Copy Protection" that I get with the laptop?

I have been using Fuji Silver / White Tops...never have had one coaster!!

I use an Epson printer and print directly to the disk as well

Arrrrgh. Now I want a Dvd burner even more, just two more paychecks Anywho, Dvd Decrypter workes pretty good for me to take my dvds with me on my laptop without bringing the disks. Just rip the iso then mount it as a virtual drive using daemon tools. Pretty quick too, only took about 30 mins.

About the writing on the dvds, I came across this a few months ago: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/179510.php Haven't gotten around to being bored enough to make one of my own, maybe will here soon. Figured you guys might be interested.
