Cheap A$$ Work!!!

So today we get new computers for the office's, I am thinking sweet... fast...high tech computers! Well I guessed wrong, they are Dell Dimension 2400 with a Celeron! How much cheaper can they get(I guess I am taking up the extra money on my pay check's! ) , they are the SLOWEST computer I have ever seen!

The question is, can I change the Celeron into a Pentium without alot of trouble?

When the boss asks why you didn't get your work finished on time, just point to the computer.

Where can I get an AMD chip and will it be hard to replace it with the Celeron?

depends on the socket type.

go to control panel, then system information, there should be information about your processor there, its model and speed. from that model and speed, you can determine the socket type and then what chips interchange with it.

how much RAM does it have??

You should be able to drop a P4 proc in w\o any issues. I'd say drop a 2.4ghz in it and some more ram.

Just remember, if you change anything on that new Dell, your warranty is gone. Well the company's warranty .

Make sure your BIOS has the latest updates before you change the processor, otherwise the motherboard won't recognize it. But if it's new, then it should.

Dell's are great computers but at the lower levels.....THEY SUCK!
This is because the board becomes so intergrated that everything is shared and seriously hurts performance. If you want to upgrade the performance you really need to upgrade the motherboard. I bet even the video card is sharing memory with the processor.

I am an AMD fan at home (by far the best bang for the buck!) but at work I am still putting in Intel stuff, but you need to really pay up to get anything worthwhile and upgradeable.

You should be able to put in a P4 into what you have at work but it won't be cheap.

Download this onto the PC and tell us which chipset your board has:
http://www.sisoftware.net/redirect/dload.php?id=43

Then we can tell you exactly how far you can push that mobo.

ive worked on a lot of dells that people want to upgrade. its usually the family computer they got for a $499 package deal. EVERYTHING is integrated and you are lucky if there is a single PCI slot. the mobos themselves are bastards along with the case and power supply, so you cant even upgrade the mobo. a lot of them dont even have room for another hard drive!

Stand back a moment and observe how realy cool it is to be a Yota member getting free computer support and no one is "yanking your chain". Opinions about computers (amd vs intel or ati vs nvidia) and what's the best solution drives most requets for help. I am truly glad to see how well we work together.

You need more memory. 256 nowadays isnt enough.

NX, try running the "system summary" and "mainboard info" modules then use the icon at the bottom to "copy to clipboard" and then post it here. The info you posted told us a little bit but I need more specs on the motherbaord to tell you anything about it.

here's the Windows menus to get you system information

Start> All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Information

Also recommend PC Wizard 2004 -> It's free @

http://www.cpuid.com/download/pcw2004_v163.exe

ALSO VISIT http://www.BLACKVIPER.com for more PC info about setup and getting the most out of your PC. I have successfuly been using info from Black Viper for over 4 years. Heck, he's better than Intel's customer service!!!
