Babysitter..

I have a problem.. a roomate problem.

I have a roomate who helps himself to my computer when I'm not using it. Not a problem right? Wrong.

For instance, tonight he spent 4 hours in a row on it.

I have given him an account on the computer, with limited access as I don't want him downloading music for fear that his use of the computer would be enjoyed even more, and would also use it more.

I am having to put off my business (Email and YT time), also getting to bed later because my computer is in my bedroom, and I can't sleep until he's gone.

Doesn anybody know of a program, or setting that would limit his time spent on a given day?

Thanks for the help guys.

yeah, tell him a virus occurred while he was on it followed by he can't use it anymore untill you figure out how to "fix it".....which could be a REALLY long time.

Or, can't you just tell him what the problem is? Let him know that his time needs to end at such and such time?

however, i personally think you should grow some cahoneys and tell him when you want him out of your room and/or off your computer. it's yours. if he doesn't - or refuses to - respect that and gets his panties in a wad over it, then just delete his logon account and tell him to buy his own.

I agree with most others, tell him when he can and cannot use it. Even if all you want to do is check your email and surf YT, boot him off no matter what he's doing. If he is one of those who will use it the second you leave, even if you say not to, install a lock on your door and keep it locked when you leave. I know it sucks to have to do all that, but you have another option, live alone.

living alone is possibly financially for everyone.....if you delete his login, he will only be able to use it when you've logged in for him. I vote for telling him straight up to get off the computer, if that doesnt work, delete his login and set your login to a password he wont be able to guess

simply change his login password so he can only log in when you do it for him. thats the least you can do. the more logical is to tell him to get his own computer and stop being a mooch

I'll see what I can do, for now I'm just going to get to it first and stay logged on.

I also thought of keeping the power cord for the laptop on me, leave the laptop set on high power, and then he'd only be able to use it for an hour at a time.

I'll kick his ass out next time.

Out of curiosity, anybody in Edmonton looking for a roomate?

Can't help withn the roomie thing but I say boot his ass, tell him your system got infected while he was on line and that it was a major pita for you to semi-fix or better yet take it to a local big box shop and ask for a virus cleanse/tune-up service and give him the bill when you get home. Tell him you have decided to revoke his privleges because of this and give him a copy of the local newspaper ads from the weekend and tell him to get his own or else use the 'puters at the local library.

The biggest problem right now if that I don't want any conflict.. I really don't want to deal with his bitching etc.

Oh yes, he's got me by about 60lbs, it'd be a tough battle to win.

I think I'll allow him to edownload a few songs... then drill him with the spyware/pop-ups thing.

Actually.. I'll just wait until the next time he's ont he comp and I want it.
