Arrrrgh, broke the PC gaming headset

I am pretty careful about putting away my headphones after gaming.
I have not gamed in a long time until yesterday.
My youngest son brought over his new gaming computer and I put Unreal Tournament III on it, and we did a glorious afternoon of battle the other day.

I usually pull the mic and headphone jack from the holes on the PC and wind the cord up and hang up the phones on my wall.

I did not do this yesterday, I only unplugged the headphone jack (so I would get 5.1 surround sound back on my speakers again) and I left the mic jack plugged into the PC.

Just got up a bit ago to get a drink of water, and my foot caught the mic cable and ripped it from the headphones.
It is toast, you can not fix this type of set.

They are Plantronics Audio 350 Ultimate Performance Headset, it was a few years ago when I bought them.

I see two models only now for the PC on their site.
USB/analog
Plantronics GameCom 777 Surround Sound Gaming Headset

Analog only
Plantronics GameCom 377 Open-Ear Gaming Headset

Here is another analog only set from SteelSound
SteelSound 5H v2 Headset

It seems to have a good review on them.

I have heard from a few who use USB headphones and mics have a lot of problems with them, including a good friend of mine who I help run his Counterstrike Source forum with.

Has anyone used USB headphones with a mic and had good results?
I have a feeling I should stick with analog.

I would only be using these to game when I am playing others live, as you need a way to "chat" with them using the mic.
We used Ventrilo yesterday, and the sound quality was great.
My oldest son who is in the Army even joined in the conversation yesterday while we were gaming, and it was really clear.
Much better than TeamSpeak which my friend runs on his gaming sever.

I ended up getting the exact same headphones.
For $26 at my local shop they can not be beat, and the cord is ten feet long, not six feet like the more expensive ones.

While I was there a product caught my eye which I will be installing later in my case, the Vantec NXP-305-SL Fan & Light Controller Panel.
I think the shop only has it is silver, so I may have to Newegg it to get it in black.

The video is pretty self explanatory.

ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

Currently I have two 120 mm fans up front, one 120 mm fan back aft, and a 200 mm fan on top.
They have a three position switch for each fan, but it is a PITA as you have to open up the case.

This unit also comes with two blue cathode lamps, pimpin'
It will look great in my case.

So no snafus with USB?
From going by what a few others have said, I hear they require drovers as they have a soundcard built into them?

I have heard of them messing with the PCs own soundcards.
Maybe they are better now?

I have just always used analog headsets for years.

no complaints yet, but they do require a driver not a big deal. I have a SB audigty SE and it works fine with it. the guy doing reviews i have been watching him for sometime now. he does a great job.
