Well... it depends...

I use it =)

I would recommend -R's... IMHO
BUT depending on your burner... you cant just go I want +R's now i want -R's unless you have a +-R burner... you will have to check what your DVD writer does and stick with it...

In anycase... -R's tend to play well with most settop boxes...

I'm using it for +R's. Works great for backing up my kids movies. They have a habit of destroying the DVD's since we want them to all learn how to use discs and the player. They've gotten better, but I still backup everything - it took me buying 5 titles twice to realize this is the way to go. I've had zero problems running the +R's on a number of different DVD players.

Ditto - except for some reason, my Nero thinks my DVD's are CD's and doesn't see the whole amount. I recently picked up Retrospect backup software to backup my HDD to DVD.

Yeah when I started and I tried DVD Xcopy but also had not to much luck and found a much easier program and its free. Its called DVDShrink its a great program and works quick. I store most of my DVD collection on large HD to playback anywhere on my network PC's no more gettign up to swap DVD's You can also choose to rip just teh movies without all teh orginals and it shrinks it down to the 4.7gig size for you, give it a try and its free what else can you ask for
http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html
Oh forgot to add I usually burn -R when buring backup DVD's most DVD players can read them but some of the newer ones now can read them all.

This is the way to go, as I make backups of all of my movies.
You don't even have to fire up Nero anymore with the newest DVD Shrink, as it will reconize you have Nero, and will offer to burn the files to disc right from its interface.

My Sony DRU-510 is only a 4 speed (bought it last Sept.), but it's both + & -, so I can use both types of discs with it.
Both type play back perfectly on the TV sets Pansasonic DVD player, and my PC.

I tried it when I first started messin' around with back-ups. Did'nt like it. I now use DVD shrink and Nero 6. Works like a charm.
