i'm familiair on PS and my preferred one, PAINT SHOP PRO. but they all act the same.
play with the settings for the magic wand such as threshold and that will do everything that.. well, i needed... never used illustrator...

try going back into photoshop with a transparent back ground and save it as a GIF.

Are your documents in the same color mode? Meaning both RGB - and RGB not CMYK?

the photoshop file i made the item cutout in and the illustrator file i put that cutout in are both in RGB mode.
weird...this problem has been happening at work. i just printed it at home, an it came out fine, the background yellow is uniform throughout. i guess that would make it the problem of the inkjet printer at work, but that's strange it'll print correctly except just around the item pictures
