CB Help i can hear them but they cant hear me?!?!

CB Help i can hear them but they cant hear me?!?!
The other day i was with my buddy and he says go on ch 40. ok kool i finely get to use my little midland he says "yo" nice and clear i say "yo" and he cant hear a damm thing. He said all he herd was a squelling sound thats it. i was about 10 feet away from him? Radio is brand new ,new colax cable, fire strike mount grounded to the body all paint is gone. radio i curled the power wire around the cig fuse power is fine grounded to a ground bolt by the fuse box in the cab. whats rong? is it the antena i never got enething tuned but i can hear everthing nicely? Help please!!!!

you have to tune it, or you will destroy your new cb radio. Dont key the mic without it being tuned or over time you will destroy it. i thik that may be a problem. Get an SWR meter from radioshack or take it to a cb shop.

Same happened here. Tune it(twist the tip on antenna) with an SWR meter.
Another weird thing that seems to happen only to me is when I am too close, within about 10 feet antenna to antenna, of the other person their transmission comes in all nasty and messed up. All I have to do is get away just a bit and it's gravy.

There's a lil washer in the antenna and mount.
Make sure that's in the right spot. Make sure it's not crushed!! Do not over tighten your antenna!!!
Tune it also.
