CB In a first gen 4Runner
I am installing my CB (Midland something) into my first gen 4Runner. I am putting it in place of the ash tray. There is A LOT of cutting of the plastic involved. Has anyone else mounted their CB there? If so lets see some pics and if not where else did you mount it?

I was going to, but I decided against it. It will stick out about 2 to 3 inches past where the ash tray sits now. If I'm not mistaken, the first gen 4runners have a shallower dash in that area. There really is no good place to mount a CB in a 1st gen....

Please do! I want to see it fit in there without sticking out. Take pictures. I would rather not cut my dash up, as I couldn't put it back if I did, but if it looks good and I get another radio, I may do it.

Full cage... Mount it in an overhead console but I guess there is no good place to mount a CB in a 1st gen daily driver

I've heard of some new units that part of the radio goes under the seat, and the rest can be put elsewhere....I don't know though
I really would like to get some sort of radio communication in my truck though. I have 2 way radios, but they're only good for me and who ever I give the other to.

I did the Cobra 18 into the DIN slot under my radio though. Works well for me as long as I stay with a single DIN head unit.

I am going to try and mount it today. I did all the cutting, well most of it. I have a 4' antenna and I also bought a 12' coax cable but should I buy an 18'? I am also most likely going to make my own mount.

Ha ok well call be a noob call me slow but today I was installing my CB radio and antenna and when I went to put the antenna on I realized that the cable does not just screw on like it does on the back of the radio itself. What am I missing?

did you buy some sort of mounting kit? It should come with instructions, cause the ant. end of the cable is somewhat complicated.

The Cobra 75 is like that.. Has a control box that you mount behind the dash or under the seat or wherever and all the controls are on the mic so you just hang it somewhere. I have some buddies that have them and love them:

I considered putting my other one under the radio, but I'm considering going to a double DIN unit so that i can have a tape player, as it would be more cost effective for using my Ipod, that I just recently got working again after over 1 year of brokenness.

I went to radio shack, but I wouldn't advise that. Finding a local CB shop would be good because you're probably gonna want to have them tune it anyway.
Firestik has some stuff, but eh......I don't know what to suggest.

You can get a deck with an auxiliary input. Mine is the JVC KD-G420. It sounds great with my mp3 player and works better than a tape adapter or RF modulator. Here's an installed pic:

Okay, well, there is a good spot to put the CB. It is exactly where amgraham put his. I'm not sure you can say that there is no good place for it, just becasue you happen to be getting a double din set up.
Anyway, below the radio is really the best spot. Ashtray, as was said, is going to require a lot of cutting.
