I know what you mean. There is no good place for it. I was going to bend up some light gauge aluminum and affix it to the front of the cup holder, so you can just slide the cup holder out and it is pretty close at hand. I do that on my third gen pickup and it works good. then i just run the aux cble in to the deck

Goto an aviation website like Sporty's and you might find some type of center mount for a GPS that could be modded for your iPhone. Just an idea...

Not sure if this is anything you've seen before, but RAM is a company that makes some pretty solid, good mounts for various applications. Not the greatest selection for auto interiors, but you could probably modify some of the motorcycle or bicycle options to do what you want.
