Text button 2011 tundra

I dont know if the text button is connected to the satellite radio or what. I dont have satellite radio and my daughter gripes when she hears a song and tried to use the text button and nothing happens. If its not strictly connected to satellite, how could I make it work with normal radio... But I guess if its only for satellite Im kinda screwed.

Any help?

From the owner's manual, section 3-2. Using the audio system, page 320...

Displaying radio text messages (for type B and C, FM mode
only)

When a new radio text message is received, “MSG” is shown on
the display. To display the message, press [TEXT] .

If the text continues past the end of the display, “” is displayed. Press
and hold [TEXT] until you hear a beep.

Text messages are not displayed while driving.
To make it display song information would be impossible for normal radio. Since that information is not transmitted by normal radio stations.

So what's a radio text message, and/or why would you receive one? Beats the hell out of me...

Most radio stations nowadays do broadcast an RDS signal over FM which will send radio station info like the station's name and current song playing and artist to the radio. Oddly enough, I've seen many radios capable of receiving RDS just not work like they're suppose to couldn't tell you about the Tundra though; haven't messed with a radio in one yet.

If the radio in the Tundra is RDS capable, all that info should show up automatically. That TEXT button sounds like a future to read text messages on the radio itself that are received on a cell phone paired to the radio via bluetooth. Again, something I've seen not work a lot of times because the radio and paired phone are just not that compatible with each other on those levels.
