Question Stock Amplifier

When installing my CB earlier this year, I found a little box below the stereo. A friend said it looked like stock stereo amplifier. One of the wires coming out of it wasn't hooked up, but there were others that ran behind the dash. I was curious if the 97+/- years of the 4Runner came with stock stereo amplifiers. If it is an amplifier, I'll just take it out since I've got an aftermarket HU now.

Hopefully someone has some insight on what it is. Sorry no pics of it right now.

Thanks,
Anthony

Yeup, that's more than likely the stereo amp. I pulled mine out when I replaced the head unit eons ago...

Cool!
Thanks midiwall! In a month when I install my amp and sub, I'll have the dash apart and take the piece out!

Well, "be sure" before you start pulling.

When you get in there, follow that harness up behind the dash and I think you'll find that it goes up to where the stock HU was and then on out to the main harness which was the feed to the speakers. Mine was pretty obviously an amp with a couple of cooling fins and ventilation slots.

Nice! The pics of the amp in your write-up is what I remember under the dash. Just another piece to take out.

Thanks again for the multimeter info. I never thought of anything like that, but I'll make sure to take the precautions now!
