sony amp problem

so on my way to work this morning my subwoofer quit working... I got home and made sure all my connections were good and stuff and they were all good... i turned on the radio and the sub worked just fine till I turned up the radio a little bit then it made this kinda "pop" sound and didnt work... i turned the key on and it came back on and did the same thing... there is a little light on the amp and it says power protection and when i turn the key the light is green and when i turn the radio up a little bit the light turns red.. has anyone had this problem??? the amps a sony 600w if I cant figure it out im just going to return the amp and get a new one and see if that works...

what kind of sub? Dual voice coils? If so, 2 or 4 ohm coils? What kind of amp, mono, stereo, or multi- channel?
Answer those questions for me and I can tell you how to resolve this issue. It sounds like the sub isn't wired correctly.
