New speakers/system in 3rd gen?

So Ive decided that the stock system is not the greatest, and I want to upgrade.
Problem is, I know about this much (fingers about 1/8th inch apart) about car audio.
Ive been reading about it for a bit, and have decided a few things..

I want to keep my stock HU for now, all the after market ones look ugly, and just dont look very easy to use to me.

I want to try and do a piece by piece install if possible (ie speakers, then HU then amp) This is because I need to start saving up some money for car payments during school.
But if its better to buy it all at once, then I'd rather do it right.

The kind of system I want is probably more a 'grown up' system then something that Bumps. Dont get me wrong somtimes bumping is good, but at this point I dont really want a sub even (no good places except boxes in the back.

So can anyone come up with some suggestions on what to look for/ a system "plan" for me?

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...duct_ID=33 72

I was thinking about these as the first piece but if there is anyhting cheaper that is worth buying Im all for it, not trying tp spend a ton here, just would rather get it right the first time.

Thanks!

I would suggest that you start with an amp maybe you will be happy with the results lol ya right

BUT SERIOUSILY start with replaceing the speakers and find something that is not paper. You want poly and a great foam ring for them to flex kind of like an sas for speaker. Once you have them replaced with QUILITY (will last and hold up to good amp way longer ask me how I know lol) 4.25" dash replacements , 5.25" front doors/6.25" middle doors (Phoenix Gold , Rockford Fosgate , Boston accustics ect. most come with crossovers for cleaner crisper sounds and componets for sure seperate highs and low's and mids can make even the worst amp sound very good not great but very good) speakers then you can start building up to subs , 8" or 10"s for rock , 12's and up for rap , but make sure you have the amp to push the subs you decide on or they will and can sound worse then what you have now.

Next is to decide if you multi amps for seperate speakers or a multi channel amp that will run all the speakers from just one amp , also keep in mind size and cooling area for the amp/s. You will want the amp as far out of site as possible so noone decides to redo there stereo system with your set up , but still have great cirulate for the air to keep it cool as you crank up your favorite tunes , if not you can burn it up or have it cut out untill it cools enough to power up again , this is a great safty device built into most of the high ends amps. You can also get the 2-3" fans to help move the air over the amp cooling fins to cool it even faster and have it last a lot longer.

Then there's the head unit you need to decide if you want a show piece or a great functioning unit in double or single din , double is the size you most likely have stock , single din is half the size of that then you have a place for storage or maybe a cb whatever you do with it fill it in or it will look like ass.

So that said start with the replacement speakers and go from there and build your system so you will enjoy it but others won't hate it

I'm a little on the older side too but I love my hard rock loud sometimes and a sub really does still enhance the low end and I opted for something small but eefective and easy to remove at will and my MTX 10" is perfect and it's mated to a Bazooka 250w amp and it works great but with the stock speakers you notice the quality suffer a little but that wil be remedied as soon as I get my Kicker KS series 6.5" components up front and my 5.25" components in the back installed. I got 'em off ebay for about a $150 for both pairs brand new.

If you have a quality HU and don't need to be cranking it up all the time you could skip an amp altogether since my Alpine at 50w a channel is enough to block out your significant other easily. It's loud enough to be annoying to people around you.

So I did a little looking around, and this is what im looking at now..

For a HU: Alpine CDA-9884
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...4&i=500CDA9884

Amp, this I cant really figure out as I haven't settled on speakers But anyone have any ideas? Im not sure what makes a good one and what makes one crap

Speakers

Focal Access 165A1 for the front as a start. Not 100% on these, I want some speakers that give a bit more base than usual, because I don't really want to run a sub

what do you guys think

Put your money into a headunit first. This will dictate the clarity and overall quality of the sound you get. You can get a bangin' system and all it will take is a crappy headunit to make it sound like .

Alpine is awesome. Pioneer is awesome. Dual sucks. Sony sucks (I hate their headunits). Eclipse is good. Those are the only headunit brands I have any experience with.

After that, do as much research as your patience can handle and pick your speakers. Then, use your speaker choice to dictate what amp you need. Basically, work from the front of the car to the back. Headunit, speakers, amp, sub, sub amp.

Make sense?

As far as a sub goes, it doesn't get much easier or much nicer than the Infinity Basslink II system.

Clean look, easy install.
Sound quality is great.

Good luck!

Fink

you are definately on the right track with the head unit and speakers, i have focal speakers and an alpine head unit in my 97 runner. they are great speakers and the head unit you are looking at has a couple of good options. depending on if you want to do a sub or not later on down the road i would start looking into a 5 channel amp. one amp that will run your entire system. that means less wiring and a lot less hassle. i put a 5 channel cadence in my runner and am very happy with it. i also added a kicker L7 8" sub in a slot port box that is about 2.5' long and 10" wide so its not taking up a lot of space in my cargo area. do your homework on prices. you will be suprised what you can get off ebay for a good deal. i got the 5 channel amp for $65 shipped ( retail over $500 ) and i got the sub for somewhere around $45 shipped. if you take your time and shop you can do an amazing system for around $500-$600. also check out caraudio.com there are always people on that site selling stuff.

good luck with your build up

A bit of an update

I got a head, Alpine CDA-9884, I put it in and it made things 100x better.

Now I'm looking into speakers and an amp

Polk Audio db6501 components for the front
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...01&i=107DB6501

And then a Profile AP1040 amp.

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...isplay=Profile

Haven't figured out what/if I want to do for the rear
