DEI alarm= battery drain

I recently had a DEI 2-way alarm installed on my Taco. It fried my old battery in a week(it was on its way out). I bought an Optima about a month ago and now it is very weak, and i drive an hour or more 4 days a week. I will charge it tomarrow and see how it does. Has anyone had the same problem with battery drain with their security system?

No dude, alarms aren't supposed to drain your battery like that. Bring it to who installed it and tell them what's up. They made a mistake. I also have a similar 2-way system and I have left it for 2 weeks on an Optima and it didn't phase it. Good pic on the alarm by the way, I no longer run DEI but they are good stuff.

an alarm should not cause your battery to die

I did notice if my truck sits for longer than a week my battery drops, but not so much to create a problem. I can tell my battery drops because the alternator is working harder to charge it. After approximately 3 weeks it was pretty much dead.

I went to the optima red cap and haven't had a problem since. The optima battery is a little more expensive, but cheaper in the long term and you don't have the acid leaks associated with the other batteries. I will go optima again and I'm a cheap ass. My .02

No, that should not happen with any alarm.
You need to do some electrical testing to find out what is pulling all that current.
