Bass In My Face!
OK, so I want to add some bass to the stock stereo stystem in my '03 Tacoma (extended cab). However, I don't want to fill up the entire ext. cab area with a huge bass box. If possible, I'd like to add bass without losing the seating back there. Any ideas? Someone suggested using the small cargo area underneath where the seats lay down flat on the floorboard. I thought about building a shallow box that would sit on the floor where people would normally put their feet, but don't know how that would sound.
Also, if anyone has any suggestions about upgrading without purchasing woofers and building boxes (ie: better after market speakers, amps, decks etc.) I'm very open to that idea as well. Thanks for your help.

I'd say tear out the back seats, build box for 2 12" and put padding on top of the box for the passengers comfort. The chics will dig it too especially when you crank it up

I just PM'ed you about my box, but re-read your post not wanting to go that far... Infinity BassLink is a good option, it can tap into the rear spearkers. I have spec'ed them a bunch and have had good feedback. _Jon

Basslinks are nice but pretty pricey. I had the same type of thing w/ an Audiobahn self-amplified sub at half the cost and it did pretty well. I'm sure the Infinity speaker is better but for half the cost, why not?

You guys have to go to Ebay; I've just put a couple of bids on them. They are running for about $160-180 brand new. They also carry the three sub version. Both are only 7 inches deep!!

one thing to try are bass tranducers.
ebay for AURA BASS SHAKERS. they are about the size of a McD's BIGMACs. what they do is shake the material they are mounted to and give you simulated bass. a few years at CES, i sat in a demo of an AURA taurus. they told me, they only had 2 PRO BASS SHAKERS in there. man, i was blown away. it sounded like a good single 10" sub in the trunk!!!! so i pop open the trunk and found NOTHING. the cool thing is that 25-50 watts of power is needed...

you can also have a console box built with a single 10 firing back
Starting in the floor ending up with the sub sitting in the seat + you have an arm rest in the back

you should take the jack and stuff out of the pocket under the right "seat" and line it with fiberglass, make a steel/aluminum copy of the cover to the pocket, cut a whole for an 8 or a 10 a whala!!!!!!!! also if you need a pic i have one, just have to find the right cd. let me know

lol ok, just shoot me down.
![]() jp Yeah that is definately overkill. I dont see how one can stand being in that car. That video made me laugh so hard when I saw it shaking the turn signals, seat and that door that my eyes started to water. On a serious note, I would say go with JL audio with a Sony Xplod head unit. The sony head units give you many variables to control. I can show you some pictures and/or sound of my system. I have 2 12'' w3v2's with a 500/1 amp to the subs and a 300/4 to the speakers. JL subs, amps and speakers. |

whats always a good laugh is the systems are usually like twice as much as the car its sitting in is worth... i would have to say any sony xplod stuff is pretty crappy. the pioneer decks are alot better.

I'll second the pioneer vote, very well made radios with a ton of features, and if you get a sub and new (decent) radio, you will always have cleaner bass. I had very good response with infinity 6.5's and 6x9's, they seem to work very well off of a new HU. Or if you have a new HU and want amplified doors, get a 4ch matched to the infinity kappa line, but if you want to keep that stock radio, they dont have a lot of power to give to speakers, and that causes distortion....
